The WorkCover Board Tasmania (the Board) invites tenders for the delivery of the Safe Farming Tasmania Program (Safe Farming).
Safe Farming aims to reduce the incidence of work-related death, injury and disease on Tasmanian farms by supporting farming businesses and communities to improve safety on their farms.
The Board seeks an experienced organisation or consortium to manage and deliver the program for 3 years from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2029, with total available funding provided of $400,000 per year (GST exclusive).
The Board seeks tenders from relevant non-government organisations to deliver the program, ensuring it continues to meet the needs of Tasmania’s diverse farming industries, and is sustainable and innovative in its service delivery approach.
Tasmania's farming sector includes a broad range of industries, including dairy, beef, sheep and wool, cropping, horticulture, viticulture, aquaculture and other primary production activities. The successful tenderer will be expected to engage across this diverse sector and deliver services that are responsive to the unique needs and risks of Tasmania's farming communities.
Program Background
For more than a decade Safe Farming has improved WHS awareness and understanding through its delivery of free WHS support and advice to farmers.
This has included:
- providing trusted, confidential information and advice to improve WHS on and around Tasmanian farms for Tasmanian farmers
- working with rural stakeholders to provide training and education on farm safety issues and fostering positive, safe discussions
- raising awareness of farm safety issues within the community.
The Board’s vision and commitment is to maintain Safe Farming as an independent, education-focused service supporting farmers through information, advice, awareness raising and practical guidance.
Safe Farming does not undertake regulatory, compliance or enforcement activities, which are the domain of WorkSafe Tasmania.
Program objectives
Safe Farming’s ongoing aims are to:
- reduce the number and severity of safety incidents on Tasmanian farms
- raise awareness of current and emerging farm safety issues
- support Tasmanian farmers to understand and meet their legislative obligations, particularly around WHS
- promote and encourage best-practice farm safety practices
- be recognised as a trusted source of support and advice by the farming industry in Tasmania
- engage with Tasmania’s farming communities to embed a safety culture across the industry and encourage ongoing positive farm safety conversations.
